Metaverse Blind Rating Game #3

Speakers rate 5 more Metaverse Platforms blindly and explain their rating

What’s up, MetaverseBay here.

We share what newcomers should know, what experts can be updated on, and what others might find interesting.

Let’s get down to it.

So much progress has been made!

This week brings us Metaverse Platforms.

With spaces for everyone from kids to adults and everything between education and leisure, we’re here to help you navigate the space!

Join us on a blind rating journey.

We’re getting insights on metaverse platforms.

The rules of our game are simple. Rate the platforms we give one-by-one without knowing which comes next. Discuss the ratings afterwards.

A recent addition to our newsletter is our Metaverse Liveliness Index.

It gives us an idea of public interest in the metaverse and how relevant it is at this moment in time.

In the coming weeks we will post an article explaining the index in depth.

This week we saw our first positive change! We went from 21 to 24 points on the scale.

This change was almost entirely driven by a huge uptick in trends. A small positive change in stock ETFs was seen while tokens were down across the board.

The bear market likely isn’t over though and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a continued downtrend in the coming weeks.

GameFi is our term of the week. It comes from merging the words “Gaming” and “Finance”.

GameFi works by combining blockchain technology, decentralized finance, and gaming.

These platforms incentivize players to visit and play games by offering cryptocurrency as a reward for doing so. This is called Play-to-Earn (P2E) gaming.

Popular P2E platforms include Decentraland and The Sandbox.

Blindly Choose. Now Defend.

Back to our Metaverse Platforms topic and our favorite game.

Blindly rate the following metaverse platforms then discuss if they deserve their rating.

On the chopping block this week we gave the following in this order:

  • Party Space

    • A hosting platform for up to 120 people. No avatars just bubbles with faces

  • Second Life

    • A popular and long-standing game. Players create an avatar and can explore a world, socialize with others, and play user-created content.

  • Ravel World

    • Early stage Web3 world builder. Aims to connect to other platforms later on.

  • TCG World

    • An NFT trading card platform. Open world features where players can explore and interact.

  • Rec Room

    • A place to build and play games together. Targeted towards younger audiences.

The game brought us to these final ratings when averaging what each speaker game.

When it came down to why the speakers thought the platforms were rated so they didn’t hold back on their true feelings and experiences.

Many felt Second Life essentially betrayed their users and let the platform go south.

From being one of the favorites of many, immensely popular, and having a loyal following to a seedy place full of scammers, profanity, and unwelcoming people.

Hopes for it to one day return to its glory days and clean up the bad actors are there. We can only wait and see.

Rec Room was rated quite well. Maybe because it came last and only top spots were left.

Regardless, its seen as a solid platform with potential, it knows its market and caters to them well.

But will it compete against ROBLOX and other big players going after the same users?

TCG is certainly a niche. After all, you have to really like a certain kind of collectible card to pay some prices they go for.

But it may not be as small or unlikely to succeed as you would think. The platform has a solid user base and is growing.

Positive and negative sentiments were shared all around.

Party Space brings us mixed feelings. Sure it has potential, but many question if its better than other hosting platforms.

Without avatars you can’t be as personal and expressive, hosts can turn off interaction between users, and it doesn’t feel genuine.

Nonetheless, some hope and positivity was still voiced.

Ravel World was met with some hesitance.

It seems great but almost too good to be true. Promises and potential are there but the project is missing one crucial element it can’t seem to land.

Watch full video below to get more in-depth information.

What are your experiences on these platforms? Much more was shared that we can’t include here.

Whether you’ve used them before, read about them, or are just curious give the discussion a listen.

Leave a comment with your thoughts and experiences and we can discuss!

Various Platforms and Their Niches
Some may have enough customers to survive and others might not

P2E games are ones that grant rewards by simply playing the game. These rewards can be in the form of crypto or NFTs which the player can then sell for their local currency.

While some of these games are free to play, others may require an NFT to allow access, as we saw in the ICE Poker example earlier.

The Sandbox platform is one that is a P2E game itself, allowing players to complete quests or tasks in a given timeframe to earn $SAND tokens as a reward.

*Always DYOR into these games before playing, some can be designed to cost so much to enter players can't recover the initial investment (if paid), be NFT scams, or otherwise be unwinnable.
