Immersion Boom
Immersive Tech is Driving Industries Forward, but Which Ones?
What’s up, MetaverseBay here.
We share what newcomers should know, what experts can be updated on, and what others might find interesting.
Let’s get down to it.

Seems like just yesterday the journey began…
This week brings us Immersive Tech.
Tired of having to leave your house to see and do everything?
Immersive Tech can help!

“Is this the real life? Is this just a Virtual Reality?” - Bohemian Rhapsody 2023 remix
Immersive Technology is booming and bringing tons of opportunity to all industries. Engage your senses and dive into a new reality.
But is it for everyone young and old? Let’s sniff it out and see what we can find.

This week brings us Augmented Reality (AR). Augmented Reality devices provide an overlay of digital information to the physical world.
It uses digital audio and visual elements to enhance the interactivity and level of enjoyment users get when viewing people and objects.
Our MMS guest shared that AR Glasses will allow users to see a model wearing an alligator in her hands, which will only exist in a virtual reality.
How cool is that?
Explain Like I’m Five:
Imagine you have a device, like a pair of high-tech glasses or tablet.
When you look through them, you can still see the real world around you, but the device adds extra stuff to what you see.
It can make virtual objects, like animals or cartoons, appear right in front of you, as if they're really there.
You can walk around and interact with these virtual things, as if they're part of your world.

What the Heck is Immersive Tech?
Immersive Technology is a widely used term that covers a large range of devices.
Augmented and Virtual Reality devices, haptic gloves/suits (feel/touch), and olfactory devices to smell your freshly cut virtual lawn!
These can overlay digital elements on our physical world (AR) or create a fully virtual environment (VR) and allow interaction with these items.
Picture This:
Right now, we are locked in an empty house and the internet is the outside world. We can only see content through a window (your phone).
Immersive technology will allow us to open the door, step outside, and get a full experience.
We asked our guests to define it and its abilities in their own terms.
Whatever the definitions were said, it is certainly the future of content interactions.
Explain Like I’m Five:
Immersive technology is like going on an amazing adventure without leaving your room.
With VR, you wear a special headset that shows you 3D pictures and videos, making you feel like you're inside of a different place.
You can even use special gloves to touch and feel things. There's also a cool device that can release scents to make it smell like you're really there.

Let’s leave the smelling device off for chopping the virtual onions.
Entering the Smell-o-verse
A more recent breakthrough in immersive technology is olfactory devices allowing users to smell in the metaverse.
Walk past a virtual bakery and smell the pie fresh from the oven.
Who knows? Maybe your avatar will levitate and float towards it.
We asked our guests “Is smell in the metaverse important or just a cool option?”
One said audio and visual components should take priority.
Others said we are too focused on duplicating what we can sense on Earth.
Rather than reinvent the wheel, why not focus on creating the impossible?
Explain Like I’m Five:
Imagine being able to smell things in virtual worlds! Olfactory devices do that in immersive technology.
Some think we should focus on making the sights and sounds better first.
Others say we should be creating the impossible rather than what we already have.
Either way, it's an exciting development that can make our virtual adventures even more amazing.

Industries Set to Boom
Immersive technologies are for much more than just gaming. They have tremendous business and educational potential.
Fashion has been at the forefront of the metaverse and immersive tech.
Virtual wearables only visible with AR headsets can add flair to anyone’s outfit.
A virtual fashion expert shared how at real-world fashion week’s brands fight to be in the front row to gain the most media attention.
But the metaverse is different.
“We don’t need Chairs!”, - meaning there will be enough space for all to watch.
We can build something different, beyond our imagination, what we don’t have in the real world.
Real Estate, Medical and other industries will be supercharged by immersive tech. One “specific” industry will definitely benefit from all the tech though.
Listen “why” here.
Explain Like I’m Five:
Immersive technologies can be used in many different areas like education, healthcare, and entertainment.
Students can take virtual field trips to explore ancient civilizations.
Doctors can use virtual reality to practice surgeries before performing them on real patients.
These technologies make learning more exciting and can transport us to amazing new places without even leaving our homes.
