How AI Is Making Rules In the Metaverse

Everything from Governance to Intellectual Property Rights can be handled by AI tools but that might not necessarily be the best choice.

What’s up, MetaverseBay here.

We share what newcomers should know, what updates experts should know about, and what everyone may find interesting.

Let’s get down to it.

We saw lots of new tech and news this week!

This week we’re covering Artificial Intelligence.

AI may soon be everywhere and running everything.

Is there a point where enough is enough?

AI is set to have its hands in every pot in the metaverse from powering NPCs to making levels and much more.

This week we look at more possibilities and determine if AI should have a hand in them.

A recent addition to our newsletter is our Metaverse Liveliness Index.

It gives us an idea of public interest in the metaverse and how relevant it is at this moment in time.

We will publish a full-length article explaining the breakdown and calculation soon.

After calculating the index this week, we noted a one point increase in the index.

Metaverse ETFs changed little while there was a 6%+ change in both metaverse-related tokens and search/social media trends.

Meta Connect 2023 was earlier this week with loads of new tech and news coming out.

Positive news does equal positive trends. Let’s see what next week brings.

Up this week we have Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

While not necessarily tied only to the metaverse it is an important aspect of it and one that ties into our discussion today.

These rights are essentially your ownership of anything you create.

As a music artist it is your ownership rights to your songs. The lyrics, the beat, and everything to it are your creative property.

IPR protects you from others selling it or using it without authorization.

The metaverse aims to create an open shared space for the whole world.

In the metaverse where users create governance and laws greatly differ around the world, what “norms” should we adopt and use? Can AI play a role?

Real World Norms or New World Order

In earlier editions of our newsletter, we have covered how AI can generate video game levels or power NPCs.

Now we’re asking “Should AI Make Rules In the Metaverse?

Everything from governance to IPR can be handled by AI tools but that might not necessarily be the best choice.

Governance within decentralized metaverse platforms is meant to be in the hands of users. Where holding tokens and land parcels grants voting rights.

This system favors the rich and the large corporations by giving them more power with more ownership.

A simple solution seems to be having AI rule within a given set of standards. Now we question what these standards should be.

In a world with many different governmental structures, cultures, laws, and views on life how can we pick one to be “standard”?

Especially if the metaverse is meant for everyone worldwide.

The answer to this question is complex, an easier one relates to IPR.

AI and tokenized IPR (take the song example from earlier), can grant instant protection from unauthorized use of your work.

If your song is tokenized you can authorize other users to use it in their game or platform. You’ll simply get a small payment each time they do.

Additionally, if anyone tries to duplicate and sell your work it can be instantly flagged as counterfeit.

Look at some areas of the metaverse regulators are looking at below and think of ways AI may assist in them.

Our speakers thought AI should have a role in governance but not make rules or be locked into one determined set of norms.

Deciding on what rules to make is no easy task but agreement landed on corporations not guiding the platforms in their vision.

Much more was to be said for IPR and governance. From protecting your work to monetizing assets, growing platforms with generations, and building wealth many thoughts were shared.

Listen to the whole conversation above and get all of the details.

Let us know your thoughts!

Should AI be “the ruler” of the metaverse or are some things better left in human hands?

Psychological Impact of Metaverse AI on Workers
Some results were quite positive.

Platforms were made to be decentralized and free of the regulation controlling our everyday lives.

The metaverse is a space where the world can come together to create and share but there are always those looking to take advantage.

Governments have their hands a little tied here. They could restrict access to these platforms but that may be considered repression of rights in many countries.

It seems they can only require citizens to report income from these platforms and adopt a set of best practice standards to educate users on safe usage.

Finally, in a decentralized environment there is no authoritative body, so scams and theft are bound to occur if there is no penalty.

For now it seems the best we can do is adopt a set of best practices to educate users on how to keep themselves, their data, and their money safe.

The Metaverse Standards Forum is one body attempting to form a consensus and agreement to these issues.
