AI Tools Disrupting Metaverse Development

What’s up, MetaverseBay here.

We share what newcomers should know, what experts can be updated on, and what others might find interesting.

Check the Welcome Post to see what we’re all about.

This edition is on AI tools, but don’t worry it all ties into the metaverse.

Now, let’s get to it.

You are on the path to become “Metaverse Ready”!

This week’s quote, “The Metaverse is dead” - Cleopatra to Caesar 50 B.C.

Welcome to the first chapter of our new journey!

R.I.P. News Digest, the past 9 months have been fun but you’ve been replaced with something better.

Here’s what we’re covering:

  • AI geeked out and make it’s own video game level

  • Designers look out. AI generated skyboxes are here

  • NPCs and AI combination.

  • AI boosting business in Metaverse

  • Meta ditched the Metaverse

  • Is the Metaverse dead or inevitable?

Surprise, surprise, it’s Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI is a branch of computer science that builds smart systems to do human-like tasks. It uses data, algorithms, and models to make machines learn, reason, and decide.

Examples include virtual assistants, self-driving cars, and medical diagnosis. AI aims to mimic human thinking and enable machines to understand and interact with the world.

Explain Like I Am Five:

Imagine there's something called "smart helpers." They are like really clever friends that can think and decide things by themselves. They don't have feelings or bodies like us, but they can solve problems and do things to help people. It's like having a super brainy friend who can do really amazing things!

3 mystery topics, 5 mystery guests, 1 hour to discuss. Simple as that.

AI Generated Video Game Level

Are there limits to the creative abilities of AI?

Every day we see new potential and fewer exceptions.

Look at AutoRPG, an in-house gamedev tool from Scrypted that was able to create an entire RPG game level.

Every single tile and bit of dialogue was created with AI. Sure, a few bugs needed to be squashed, but only one tile needed manual replacement.

Total costs of production…? A whopping $0.83.

Developed over many years, it uses independent “AI Agents” to make decisions.

Their individual personalities determine interactivity, map layout, and logical design (putting strawberry trees near the water).

AutoRPG has a potential to disrupt the gaming industry.

Tim Cotten gave the ins and outs of the AI, the process as a whole, and a look to the future. “World building is just the start…” he mentions before hinting at what’s to come.

Explain Like I Am Five:

People made a special computer program that can create levels for video games. This program is called AutoRPG. It used its special abilities to make a whole level for a game. The program worked really hard for a long time, and it only cost a very small amount of money to make. They are going to make even more amazing things with this program in the future!

Our take

AI shows us a look into the future of what it can create. Beyond game levels we can create instant virtual environments and even expect AI to make NPCs interactive.

Scribble. Text. Create.

Skyboxes are backdrops for digital environments used on platforms such as ROBLOX and AI has just made the creation of them even easier.

BlockadeLabs has created a new tool which allows any user to draw a few lines and describe their vision before quickly generating a downloadable 360-degree skybox.

This is an obvious timesaver and incredible creative tool.

Any art style, any theme, anything you can imagine, is just a single sentence and few lines away.

On the MMS call we shared enthusiasm for the new technology and how open the space is becoming.

Explain Like I Am Five:

There's a special tool that helps make amazing pictures for a virtual world where people can play and explore. You can draw some lines and tell it what you want, and it will create a cool picture that fits in that world. It's really fast and lets you use your imagination to create anything you want. It's like magic for the virtual world!

Our take

It transformed my “amazing” drawing of a house in the mountains into a literal masterpiece.w

I LOVE THIS TOOL!!!

“Are You Human?!”

A silly question today but a legitimate one in the future.

AI advancement has been a source of growing concern for decades with worries that the technology will be too lifelike to discern from humans.

Developers have taken this into account and begun work on Proof-of-Humanity and Proof-of-Identity protocols to ease these fears.

As NPCs merge with AI to have real-time discussions and interact more realistically, we will need to know if we are interacting with a human or AI.

Proof-of-Humanity solves this by using biometrics, identity document submissions, and video-proof to create a “blue checkmark” verifying humanity.

But is it needed if you won’t be able to tell the difference?

There is no definitive answer today.

During last MMS discussion, some experts explained that we should mint proof-of-reality on the blockchain and others questioned if we are even real.

Listen to their reasoning here.

Explain Like I Am Five:

In the future, some robots might look and talk like people. People are trying to find ways to tell if they are real or not. They might ask the robots to show pictures or talk on videos to check. But some people think it doesn't matter if they are robots or real people, as long as they seem like new friends when we talk to them.

Our take?

We think a healthy balance of AI powered characters and humans is necessary for the metaverse to succeed.
